“Halen Portrait”

24”’ x 24” | watercolor and acrylic on canvas

This portrait was constructed over time, and through a rigorous layering of both watercolor and acrylic paint. Some of the layers can still be seen coming through the man’s figure, connecting him with  the bleeding, watercolor washes below. The background frames out the figure, while heavier watercolor bleeding down the left-side of the canvas balances the asymmetry of the composition. The stern expression on the figure’s face, along with the darker, masculine shades of red, allows the painting to convey an overall feeling of strength and virility.
